Questions about PC
- What PCs can I use?
Every PC beginning 486 are usable. The IR-2-usb works with all standards.
- I have an old PC with an 25pol COM-Port
You can also buy an adapter (9pol D-Sub Pug to 25 pol D-Sub Socket).
Questions about IR-2-serial and Notebooks / Laptops
- I want use the IR-2-serial at a Notebook / Laptop!
Note: With Notebooks voltage supply is differently regulated! If you want to use the module at a
Notebook, please select the option "Notebook" in the order form, so that the module is amended accordingly for you.
Questions about IR-2-serial and VIA EPIA Mainboard
- I want use the IR-2-serial at a VIA EPIA Mainboard!
Voltage supply is differently regulated. Therefore a modification of the circuit is necessary. Please
select the option "VIA EPIA" in the order form!
The module is not initialised by Girder.
- At Serialwatcher is the module well known, but in Girder itself not!
It can be two reasons for this:
- IR-2-serial:The
requested COM-port is not the COM-port on what the module is installed. Here is
a description howto change these settings: Call please
the mask "Settings" and go you on the "Hardware Plugin" seeing there you admit
attitude < UIR/IRman > clicked. Leave the option clicked. If the option BLUE
discolours, you can somewhat on the left of the Button "Settings" to click. If
you click that, receive a small window, in which you can select the COM
interface directly. Select the correct COM haven. The module should be able to
be now switched on!
- IR-2-usb: The
COM interface is not addressed, at which the module is. There can either as in
point 1 described the COM interface be changed OR call the device manager . In
the listing of your components you find a further COM interface under USB.
Examine whether the number agrees with the interface number in Girder. If that
should not be the case, call the adjusting options and specify the
COM-interfacenumber again.
There are a few ABIT-Mainboards on the market which USB-Controller is not correctly initialized by BIOS. You can find description and Patches for this problem here.
- The BIOS-Settings are not automatically changed. For Instruction (howto) look at next point.
Miriam shows a question mark in the task menu.
- IR-2-serial and IR-2usb: The
requested COM-port is not the COM-port on what the module is installed. Please open "remote settings" and edit the COM-port-port number.
- IR-2-usb: Please go into the "remote settings" and confirm the COM-port AGAIN which is used by the receiver module.
Howto change BIOS-settings.
- The BIOS-Settings are not OK
++Do only change these settings if the first tip could not help you!++
There
are at present BIOS
versions on the market, which do not change the necessary adjustments on their
part; these must be adapted by the user MANUALLY.
- Look in the BIOS the
selection menu up for the configuration of the COM interface and modify you it
on
<ASK-IR>
For little experienced users is here a detailed guidance, which refers to Phoenix BIOS (Siemens computer):
- Press <F2> for getting
BIOS started
- Select under "Enhanced"
the menue "Peripherals"
- select the COM port, at which the IR module is attached
- modify the available
adjustment into <ASK-IR>
- Press <F10>
and save the new settings
Now your computer is likewise able to deal with the module. If you should have another BIOS, do not shrink from yourselves to email us! Please use the Link in the link-list!

Questions about Remote Controller
- The Remote Control
The IR module is compatible with almost all models. Neither the age nor the type of the past use are
with various devices (video recorders, televisions, stereo and HIFI systems etc..) decisive!
- I have a remote maintenance, which is NOT compatible!
If that should be the case, we take the module back naturally! We would be grateful, if we get
the type (manufacturer and model designation) mentioned by you.
- Multifunction-Remote Control
Multi-function remote maintenance (the RC, with which one can steer several devices) to have a
clock rate of 455KHz. The module works however with 36, 38 or 40 kHz! Therefore does not fold with
these remote maintenance.
Questions about cable and IR-Signs
- How long may the cable be max.?
IR-2-serial: A unshielded cable should not exceed 5 meters. If the distance is larger than 5 meters,
one should fall back to a protected cable.
IR-2-usb: A unshielded cable should not exceed 3 meters. If the distance is larger than 3 meters,
one should fall back to a protected cable (max. 5m).
- From which distances can the module receive signals?
The module reacts sensitively to IR signals. If the remote maintenance strong signals transmits
(better: the batteries of the remote maintenance are not empty), can 10 meters be bridged. With
normal remote maintenance is the range approx.. 5 meters. We test the modules from this distance.
Question about Specification
- Supported Protocols
We are using RC6 Mode 0, RC5, RECS80 and the NEC-standard. The used protocols have 8, 16 or 32 bit. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH IRDA!
- Frequency
The receiver works with 36kHz. The frequency can be changed by exchanging of the TSOP.
